Ok, so the apartment hunt has begun again in full swing. I know, I should have been more active in this sooner, but after losing all the info I had gathered due to computer issues and the swing to try and get all the stuff done so I can get back in school, I just lost focus. Anyways, I am going through the website of a local paper looking for places, calling the ones that jump out at me, and keeping a list of the places that look appealing but either failed to meet our standards (pets, cost, etc) or offended/scared me in some way. Now most places around here range from $350-750 depending on what you are looking for and location. And with all places, certain things are included and certain things are not. They also usually tack on a number to call them. No big deal...this is the normal stuff.
Anyways, I am calling these numbers and getting fairly interresting results on some of them...and they are going into my IGNORE list. For instance, the cell phone number I called that gave me a cute little message about how the owner could not accept messages or calls until their account was caught up. Or possibly even the extra $500 (and $20/month) some want for kitty to live with us. This is my favorite though:
Paper said to call 555-5555 ext 203 and ask for Amanda so I dial.
Them: [insert business name I did not catch]
Me: yes, can I have extension 203?
Them: Why?
Me: Um, well, because the number I have says that is the extension of the person I need to talk to...name of Amanda.
Them: Fine, one minute.
And then I get transfered to a blank voice mail box. I hang up.
No sure if they were at work and using the work number to rent out their apartment or if the person who answered the phone was just a bitch...Oh well, ignore list. It seems that the only place that really wants our business is the place we are currently renting through...which is fine because they are cool. I hate phone calls.
