I had this fairly long post last night about my addiction to not doing anything, well, any thing significant. I talked about how I couldn't really blame a WoW addiction or internet addiction or TV, because I would always find something else useless but interesting to take my attention. Of course, while writing it, I was watching a podcast. When the podcast was over, I clicked the window, then hit Alt + F4 (my two favorite keys), but instead of it closing my media player (that is what Alt + F4 does, by the way, invokes the 'Close Application' function in Windows), it closed EVERY open window. The media player, my browser (with my post), and two file managers (or two instances of the same file manager if you want to be picky). I was annoyed, so I went to bed. I totally forgot about it until I just fired up the page to post about WoW, and noticed it wasn't there. Exciting, I know. It is so exciting, that I am not going to post about WoW now, I am just going to go to bed. Maybe I will talk about the cluster fuck that are patch days tomorrow.

Posted on: 2010-05-17 02:48:27[ More - 10 comments ]I am aware of the lack of posts. Oddly, it doesn't even stem from a lack of anything to post about, just nothing over exciting, or at least nothing I feel excited about to somehow stretch it out into a single post. Instead of hashing out the reason(s) I have just been wearily plodding on, just being content that I can, in fact, wearily plod on. So here is a sum up:

Posted on: 2010-04-12 01:47:05[ More - Add comment ]NAS: So, I had been researching the NAS thing. I decided to go with a Synology model instead of the Netgear one I had been looking at. In addition to all the benefits of having a NAS, my end goal is have a cheap, energy efficient laser printer hooked up to it. It is all part of my desire to not have to worry about making sure a particular computer is on to either access or print files. To this end, the Synology seems to have a little better printer support, but it is about $100 more. Plus, I know me. Getting one step closer to my goal would of course push me to the next step, which would require more money. So both of these are getting put off for a bit.

Posted on: 2010-03-11 03:27:14[ More - 2 comments ]I have to say I am quite pleased with my little netbook. The quoted battery life is 8 hours, but that number was probably figured with the wireless card off and the computer running nothing more cpu intensive than a text editor. I have watched about 4 hours of streaming video off of Netflix and still have almost 2 hours left, so I am fairly impressed. I knew before we went looking that I wanted one with a 6-cell battery, and was pleased they had made it into the low-end netbooks...low-end netbook sounds redundant, I know. But my low-end netbook also plays WoW, which surprised the hell out of me. Obviously, I had to turn all the settings down to almost nothing and it is still a little sluggish.

Posted on: 2010-02-28 05:54:21[ More - 6 comments ]Today (Sunday) this site is officially 6 years old, and to celebrate that fact, I figured I would actually post...which is something I have been fairly bad about recently. I go in waves, as most of you know, so me going some time without posting shouldn't be too surprising. I have been in a huge work-wow-sleep schedule and everything else has been drifting away.

Posted on: 2010-01-12 14:18:52[ More - Add comment ]It is crazy that it has been two weeks since I posted last. It doesn't seem like that long, but a lot has happened since 12-27 (the 12-29 post was late due to a text to post error and my general lack of attention). My addiction to WoW was rekindled, the new year broke, Rook had another extended visit, I had a job interview (waiting on a call for the follow up this week, keep your finger crossed...and your toes...and children's toes...and anything else you can cross), the wife's grandfather passed away, I met a ton of the wife's relatives (most of which I had seen at least once before), and I have been heartily thinking about putting XP back on my computer instead of Win7 (at least until I get a faster proc and more ram...ie about two months after I find a job.) As far as the novel goes, I have poked around a bit, mostly seeing where I left off, and trying to find my voice again. I even have a few ideas for a possible fourth(?) novel in the series, and some expansions on the ideas I had for the third.

Posted on: 2009-12-27 18:56:21[ More - Add comment ]I felt like posting, but without anything major to post, I figured I would do a follow up to my Saturnalia post. I had originally meant to use Chrome for 6 days, but barely made it past two days. Simply put, the bads outweighed the goods. I even jumped over to Firefox to see if I could make that jump, and while much closer, it still isn't quite as good as the experience I am accustomed to. I am going to break this up into a different areas, the deal breakers and the annoyances.

Posted on: 2009-12-17 17:40:21[ More - Add comment ]I got an invite to Google Wave from Punk Boy earlier. I fired up Opera to start playing, and it kinda puked all over the place. Wave is new, so I guess I can't be too upset. But I decided in celebration of Saturnalia, I would give Google Chrome (Google's browser) a chance. I doubt I will make it more than a day, let alone the entire 6 days of Saturnalia, but I will give it a try. So instead of the masters and the slaves switching positions as was tradition, I will swap out my browsers.
