Work, work, work. - DADC

Work is going swimmingly. I am still working on the ghetto line, but for the past week or so it has been getting slowly better...the last two night especially. So good in fact, that our supervisor is kicking us to another line. The numbers on this other line have been really bad lately...at least on our shift...and he is wanting to know if it is the line or the people running it. That being said, there has been at least one tech camped out on that line because of problems so I really can't see how he can think it is not the lines fault.

I got to meet another of the seasonal people last week on my overtime day. I don't quite remember her name or even really what she looked like (other than the hair she had plastered to her head) but I do rememeber the arrogance. She wore an aura around her that screamed that it was her line and she could run it better than anyone. That in itself did not bother me, the attitude is quite frequent with people who run the same line all the time. What did bother me was before I found she was seasonal, she made the comment that she hated being stuck with seasonals and temps. Now temps I can almost sympathise with, they don't know if they will ever work there again so some of them don't have the drive to really work, but every seasonal person I have worked with has done their best to do the job. Strike one. I opted to slow down a bit after that comment. A while after I found out she was seasonal she was asking about when the pay raise would show up on her check. I told her that mine and everyone I had talked to popped at the two month mark. She got pissed said she was trained in a week and a half and should get her raise then, and walked away. Strike two, with exception of a couple of days, she had never left line 20, which means she has no idea that all lines behave differently, some drastically differently, and running DVD is only mildly like running PS2. Stike three came right before lunch. The edge labeler ran out, which would not be a big deal on most other lines, but this line had one of the 'new and improved' edge labelers. And going with the theme of being drastically different, these new one load nothing like the old ones, ie, I have no idea how to load it, but I did anyways. Admittedly, I did it very wrong...well maybe not very wrong. The first and last thirds were right, but the middle wasn't. I knew it wasn't right, but I had no idea how to make it right. So I called over Miss I know this line like the back of my hand to help. She agreed that it was wrong, but had no idea what was wrong. After about ten minutes of messing with it, she went to lunch with it still not being right. Trained, my ass. A couple of minutes later I had it loaded and running fine.

My last little thing here before I force myself to sleep is about a temp. I saw her the first time about a week and a half ago. I guess a setting is in order, lines 4 and 5 are along one of the walls and because of that they give the appearance of being darker and smaller than they really are (all the other lines are open and you can see from one wall to the other). So, still thinking dark, imagine a bright pink spot in the middle of the darkness, kinda hard to miss. She definetly looked out of place. I just assumed she was 19-20 working as a temp to pay for college, which technically may be true. Later I saw her face, and she looked like she was in her mid to late 40s. I kinda stopped and tried to match up this bright pink sweatsuit with someone who was 40+. Later I got a better look at her face, and yes, she is indeed in her teens or early 20s, but apparently never believed the rumors that tanning boothes are bad for you. The skin looked like leather. I am sure that if I had walked up to her I would have seen cracks in her cheeks and skin peeling away from her hairline. Needless to say, I made sure I never got that close.

I have my own.

I have a nemesis at work as well. I'll tell you about her some time.
