Newer != Better - Computer

I am really kind of annoyed right now. First the back story, we had been having electricity problems...surges and such. The problems fried our DSL modem (and a power supply in the server). Sadly, I was out of town so I could not take care of things. When I got back, I called (around 2:30pm) Verizon and ordered a new one. They said it would be here in 2-3 days. It was here within 20 hours! 1.5 hours later, our network was up and running. That is right, 1.5 hours to install a modem. You know why? Because it is also a router...a single port router.

Now this does not seem like a problem, I mean, why should it, right? First off, I can't configure both the new modem/router and the wireless router without unplugging and replugging cords. Not happy. Also, both items being a router and refusing to not be a router seems to be causing problems. I am getting significant connection drop offs. Sometimes the drop off lasts for several minutes with no way to speed up the reconnection. I wish when I ordered this they had told me that I would be having these issues and I would have opted for the unit with the wireless connection built in.

I think that if I can not resolve these issues by Monday, I am going to call, complain, and try to get Verizon to switch them out because I had none of these issues with my old unit.

It's not stupid...
