This is sort of part 2...part 1 is here.
I woke up this morning. The wife was already gone where ever she goes on a weekend morning, and the cat was at the foot of the bed. The cat was wide awake and watching me, except it wasn't me, it wsa behind me. We have the bed right up against the window on the second floor, so I wasn't overly concerned. I got up, pet the cat, and looked to see what it could have been. I noticed something climbing around in the blinds. First thought: great, she summoned another familiar. I watched it for a moment and it wasn't going anywhere. I went downstairs grabbed my glasses and found the wife asleep on the couch...amused at the reversal, I left her there. I went back upstairs to get dressed, and then made another run for my shoes. I grabbed a towel from the bathroom and set my mind for the epic battle ahead: The commoner vs the familiar while the master sits back and watches.
Ok, so it wasn't epic at all. I closed the door and blocked of any egress from the room. Then it was a matter of determining what sort of animal it was. The way it was walking along the back of the blinds reminded me of when I was a kid...we used to have birds and they could do that. I started to open the window thinking it might just fly out, but at the angle from the other window noticed two other feet, so it had to be a mouse. I tapped the blinds to drive it to one side, let it get settled, and bopped it with the towel. It fell about halfway down the blinds and started climbing, so I bopped it again, this time a little harder. It fell to the corner of the bed, then to the floor. He was still alive, so I wrapped him with the towel and "escorted" him outside. Humans win again.
