Snowball 360 - xbox - Misc - Computer
Posted on: 2008-10-09 13:44:00

I have finally got back around to the whole xbox-as-a-media-center idea. It has been sitting near my computer pretty much collecting dust since about a month after I got it (glad I did not waste too much money on it). But over the last week or so, I decided I needed to get back to it.

It was easy enough to share movies and music over the network to the xbox. (There are some codec issues, but that a different story.) As I was setting that up, I decided that I wanted more, like Netflix on my xbox. Netflix led online media, which snowballed into something else. And eventually I got this:

My desktop, the server, my laptop, the xbox, and the tv...normally I don't have the tv and server there. While trying to get new stuff on the xbox, I decided to toss Windows Vista on the server since it can use the xbox as a media extender, so I brought the server in to install Vista. Then I got tired of switching cables back-and-forth on my monitor (amusingly, with all the computer crap I have, I don't have a kvm), so I brought the tv in. I don't think there can be any more computer stuff drug in from around the house for this project, but I will try.

My desk.

My desk would look like that if I could get something to connect my consoles (xbox, playstation, and gamecube) to my monitor and switch between the four (Murphy being the forth). Other electronics would be the TV, VCR, and Darkman. That would kick ass.

Hmm...

Well, technically Bob is in that room (not pictured), but other than him, there's really just Buster that I can think of, and I'm perfectly happy with him staying in the living room, lol.

Yeah, well.

I won't mind getting the server, TV, and xbox out in the living room. I like white noise, but I also like to be able to hear music and movies over the fans.

At least you still have room to kick up your feet.
